Winter Photography Challenge - Landscape

This week's challenge over at Photography Awesomesauce is Landscape Photography at Golden Hour.  I met a friend over at Peace Valley Park in Doylestown, PA.

Quite honestly, I am a bit frustrated but I am determined to learn how to use my camera.  Here is my photo entry with a little tweaking in PSE.

I also took some of this cutie tonight.

What is that woman up to???

I have been M.I.A. from blogging all summer. I just don't know what to say. I do have a Facebook page that I post on and would love to see you there.  If you want to see what I am doing and feel so inclined, please like my page.

This is what I have been up to lately. I bought a gently used Canon Rebel T3i about 6 weeks ago. Put it this way...I am obsessed!

I am rethinking my jewelry business and the direction I want to go in.  I LOVE making collage pendants.  Resin is my all time favorite and I have been on a quest to work my own photography into the pendants for quite a while now. I have been running into snags with which resin to use. I have been working with resin for probably close to 5 years, using Easy Cast and Ice Resin .....loved both but wanted to try u.v. resin. Last year I ventured into u.v. resin and while I like it a lot I have more problems with it then not.  I have been using Magic Glos for about 10 mos or so and have been having too many snags with it.  I am gearing up for using Jeweler's Grade Resin by the same maker of Easy Cast - Envirotex.  I have also heard good things about Gel Du Soleil u.v. resin.  I will keep you posted.

Other then that, I have a home show coming up in November that I really need to prepare for and learning how to use my new dslr plus working on my digital art.  Please come visit me at my Facebook Page.  I would love to connect with you there!

Until next time....TTFN. ta ta for now

Pansies and other things

Hi friends!!  Just thought I would quick check in with you.  I continue to play with my camera and Photoshop Elements.  I also am working on jewelry submissions for Bead it Today and other work in progress. I am very excited that I will be in the next issue of Bead it today due to hit newsstands on June 18th. Look for my necklace in the article Vintage Vogue.  :)

I am enjoying working with my new camera (it's a point and shoot digital Nikon Coolpix L810). It isn't a DLSR but it is good for me for now.  I am learning so much from watching tutorials and just playing with PSE and learning how to edit my photos and make digital art.

I will just share some photos and digital art I have been working on lately.

I am loving resources like ScrapbookGraphics (tutorials and digital papers, etc.) CoffeeShop Blog (free digital textures, frames, etc).  Their links are in my blog roll. The frame below is from The Coffee Shop blog.
I was just messing around with different effects and textures with the tree pic.

A teeny weeny little fly on one of my peonies.  I love taking pictures with the macro setting on my camera.
I hope all is well with everyone.  I am going to do some much needed blog hopping to see what you have all been up to lately!!  TTFN ta ta for now.  xoxoxo

Checking in......

Hi friends!  Here are a few Photoshop Elements projects I worked on lately.  I am working on altering personal pictures as well as making digital art with digital elements and my own images.  The boys in the dandelion are my sons when they are were little.

This piece with the ballerina has about 4 texture layers (some are my own images and others are digital textures I purchased) in it.  The ballerina is from Lisa's altered art.

I purchased online tutorials from Scrapbook Graphics.   I also  the books Digital Expressions by Susan Tuttle and PhotoCraft by Susan Tuttle and Christy Hydeck.  PSE is such an awesome program and I am amazed every time I learn something new.   TTFN ta ta for now.  xoxo

Bead-it-today and other things

Hello friends!!  I am so very excited.  I am in the premiere issue of Bead-It-Today.  It's a cool magazine by the same publishers of Knit 1.2.3, Sew It Today, etc.  This is my first time being published in a magazine and to say I am thrilled is an understatement.  The magazine came out yesterday and is available at craft stores and Walmart. AND lots of my friends are in this issue too!!

Onto other projects......

I have been working on learning Photoshop Elements.  I bought a set of tutorials from Scrapbookgraphics and they are THE BOMB.  It's  mixed media and art journaling tutorials using PS. It is geared towards Photoshop and CS but I have had no problems adapting what they are teaching to use in PSE.

This is one of my first collage projects using the tutorials.  The circus poem in the background is a poem by Australian poet Graeme King. I am really enjoying the tutorials and and getting a lot out of them.

One of the coolest things so far is learning about shadowing.  What a difference using shadows makes to a digital collage.

I am also working on some more bead magazine submissions and orders.  I have  bunch of new pieces that I need to photograph and list on Etsy.

I hope everyone is having a great week. TTFN ta ta for now.  PS:  Go buy Bead-it-Today :)

Checkin in

Hi peeps!  I am still here.  I continue to work on my PSE skills and am looking into taking online mixed media digital art classes.  There are so many things I want to dabble in and it is hard for me to concentrate on one thing.  I bought Metalsmithing at Home online tutorials and still haven't started it yet.  I need to concentrate on one thing at a time. ;)  Here are a few recent PSE projects.  I hope all is well with everyone!  TTFN ta ta for now.

PSE Projects

Hi Friends!  Just wanted to share a few things I have been working on.  I continue to work on my PSElement skills.  Here are a few projects.
My guys when they were little.  ::sniff::  :)  I am loving making these photo montages or composites with real people.  I enjoy using people from digital collage images but there is something so fun about using my family in these composites.

The door and little girl are from a digital collage sheet but the background is one of my images.

I shot the statues in a old cemetery in my area.

That's it for now. Have a great week. I am going to work on a PSE project. xoxo  ttfn ta ta for now.

Monochromatic Photo Challenge

This week's photo challenge. After you take a look at mine please pop over to Studio Sublime and check out the other participants monochromatic pictures.

Here is what I did this week.  I took these last week when it snowed a little here. My part of Pennsylvania has gotten very little snow so far this winter.  I particularly like the way the fog or mist is in the early morning when I shot these. I edited them using sepia, black and white and red in PSE.

Checkin in 2/7/13

Hi friends!  I missed this week's photo prompt for 52 Weeks of Photos.  ::hanging head in shame:: I  have  a shot of some hearts but they are so lame I am embarrassed to even post. So I am skipping this week. I have been very busy trying to figure things out for Etsy and my jewelry business.  I have been playing with Photo Shop Elements and hoping that I will be able to use these skills to make digital art for my resin pendants a little easier. Here are a few things I did this week.
Center City Philadelphia
Little Girls - Lisa's Altered Art, trains and trees- Linda Hanes
I am enjoying myself with PSE. It has been frustrating but I am starting to get the hang of it.  I have a dummy book for PSE8 - the version I have on my computer which has been helpful.  TTFN ta ta for now!!

Focus on Life - Week 4 - Create

This week's prompt is create. I love to create jewelry. Particularly, resin pendants. I enjoy making photo pendants with my original prints and I like making mixed media collage pendants with other artists digital art. This is what I have been working on this weekend. It snowed last night and I feel particularly creative when it snows.

Focus on Life - Week 3 - Take Time

This is my week 3 contribution to Focus on Life 52 Photos
The prompt for this weeks challenge is take time. I adore antiques.  I love everything about them.  The way they smell, look, feel. The stories behind them.  Most of the antiques I own I have no story to connect with them. I do not know who their previous owner/s are.

In this picture are many different eras of items.  The hat I think is from the 20's or 30's  The iron, I can't begin to think.  Probably around the turn of the last century.  The milk bottle is probably from the 50s and the martini glass the 60's.  The tonic bottle from the back I am thinking 40s.  My idea of taking time is to slow down and enjoy my home. I imagine the woman who wore this hat.  Was she happy?  Did she have a family? Where did she live.  I imagine the milk bottle in a school cafeteria in the 50's. A little boy or girl drinking out of it.  Maybe worrying about a recent bomb drill or having their homework done for arithmatic.  The martini glass I picture a woman with a bee hive entertaining her husband's boss and wife on a Friday night.  The iron...don't get me started.  The thought of having to heat up an iron in the fire to press my clothes is beyond my comprehension!  :)  I find ironing relaxing (when I do get to it) but to heat up an iron in a fire. Ut uh!

Franklin Institute

Center City Philadelphia Row Home
I also took time this week and went to the Titanic Exhibition at the Franklin Institute with my boys. I was unable to take pictures in the exhibit, it was prohibited.  But seeing all of the artifacts made me think of some of the treasures I have here at my house and how precious they are.  I am not much of a photographer but I am trying to learn how to use my new camera. I enjoy taking pictures.  I need to work up my nerve to position myself lying down or twisting myself, etc. to get the shot.  I am not quite there yet.  :)   So I took some time this week to enjoy the treasures I have in my own home, my children and exploring Philadelphia a little.

Week 2 - Your Word

I chose FEARLESS for my word for 2013.  Over the past year and a half I have walked over 500 miles and worked out 329 times.  That might not sound like much but for me it is an awesome feat. I joined Weight Watchers July 22, 2011.  Before joining WW I was only able to walk around the block a couple of times and exercise for 15 or 20 mins at a shot.  I started documenting my miles and workouts in the fall of 2011. I have lost 73 lbs and walked over 500 miles on this weight loss journey and by the grace of God I am still going. I have learned a lot about myself over the past year and a half.  I don't have to be afraid anymore. Weight Watchers, walking, and a program called Made to Crave are the tools I have used to get where I am.  I even joined Boot Camp at my local Y and get up at 5 am three days a week to go work out.  Now that is an accomplishment just in its self as I am NOT A MORNING PERSON!  lol  Not at all.  So yes, my word is FEARLESS but it is not me who is fearless. I chose FEARLESS because with God I can do anything.   Here are this weeks photos for Focus on Life

Self Portrait - Week 1

I joined a 52 Week Photo Challenge at Studio Sublime.  I already am a day late and a dollar short as it was due to be posted last Saturday. :/ But here it is.  I got a new camera for Christmas and I thought this would be a perfect challenge to learn how to use my new camera.

I have to admit i  have a hard time with getting my picture taken especially as I get older and I do not like my wrinkles but I know it's important to have pictures of myself for my children.  My mom never liked having her picture taken. When she passed away at 50, 21 years ago, we had barely any pictures of her which is sad. So even though I am not jumping in every possible picture I am getting in pictures more for that very reason.
